Easy Recycled Spoon Witch Craft for Kids
Here’s a quick and easy recycled spoon witch craft for kids to make this Halloween! Kids will enjoy turning an old spoon into something wonderful!
One of the most popular movies of last year was Wicked, based on the 1995 novel of the same name, written by Gregory Maguire, which in turn was an adult retelling of the traditional Wizard of Oz. In the novel, one of the main characters, Elphaba, is born with green skin, due to which she has to face a lot of ridicule, but later becomes a powerful character.
This whole idea of witches having green skin was popularized by the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, where green was used due to its association with the supernatural. Anyway, today witches and green go hand in hand, and that’s why our recycled spoon witch craft today features a pretty witch with a green face!

Supplies required:
- Colored felt fabric
- Wooden dessert spoon
- Small twig or stick
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brush
- Scissors
- Fabric marker or chalk
- Craft glue
- Sharpies
How to make the Recycled Spoon Witch Craft:
1. Download and print the Recycled Spoon Witch Craft template. The template includes parts of the witch, such as dress, hat, hair and broom. It also includes embellishments like stars and a stripe.

2. Use a fabric marker or chalk to trace the template patterns on the felt of the appropriate colors and cut them out. We’ve used orange for the hair, black for the hat and dress, brown for the broom and yellow for the stripe and stars. Lay out all your pieces as shown below.

3. We start our recycled spoon witch craft with any witch’s most treasured possession – her broom! Take the broom felt piece and apply glue to one short end. Stick the twig or stick to this end.

4. Roll the stick on the rest of the felt around itself. When you reach the end, secure it in place with more glue. You should now have a nice, finished broom ready!

5. Put aside the broom; we’re moving on to the hat of the recycled spoon witch craft. Stick the yellow band just above the hat’s brim. Put the hat aside for now.

6. Take the spoon and paint it in a color of your choice – we’ve chosen green. You can either paint the entire spoon or just the top and bottom ends. Let the paint dry completely. If you like, apply another coat and let it dry.

7. Glue the hair base cutout to the edges of the spoon’s bowl. Apply some glue to the tip of the spoon’s bowl.

8. Stick the fringe piece on the glue applied in the previous step, ensuring the top edge of the fringe sticks to the top edge of the base hair piece. Your recycled spoon witch craft is taking shape!

9. Glue the hat on top of the fringe so that it sits on top of the witch’s head.

10. Use a black sharpie to draw eyes, a nose and a mouth on the witch’s face. Our witch is smiling, but you can also make her sneer or grin!

11. Time to dress our witch! Stick the stars on the dress with glue.

12. Stick the dress on the spoon’s handle, right below the bowl. Attach the broomstick on the dress with glue, placing it diagonally across the witch’s dress.

That’s it – your pretty recycled spoon witch craft is complete! You can make this witch stand on her own by sticking the bottom end of the spoon into some playdough or modeling clay. You can also make her some friends so she isn’t lonely, slightly changing the paint color or the hair color. You can have an entire coven of pretty witches sitting on your mantle or shelf – great Halloween decor idea!
