Fun Toilet Paper Roll Frog Craft for Kids
If you’ve got an empty cardboard tube lying around, you must make this cute and fun toilet paper roll frog craft! Easy to make & fun to play with!
It’s fascinating to learn about how different animals catch their prey. There are cheetahs, who run at top speeds to catch a poor gazelle, a spider who traps a fly in his web, or a frog, who chucks out his entire tongue and grabs an insect – before you can blink!
Yes, frogs are experts at catching their prey, and it is very interesting to know how they do it.
How do frogs catch their prey?
- A frog uses his bulging eyes to see in all directions and spot its prey
- Its tongue is about one-third its body length and is attached to the front of the mouth
- The frog’s tongue isn’t always sticky – it produces sticky mucus just before it traps the insect
- A frog shoots out its tongue, catches its prey and brings it into its mouth in less than 0.07 seconds
- If the prey proves to be too big to handle, the frog uses its legs to push it down
Wow, who knew that such a fast act had such a lot happening behind the scenes? Well, if all this trivia has you intrigued, here’s a fun toilet paper roll frog craft that exhibits the frog’s amazing capabilities!

How to make the Toilet Paper Roll Frog Craft:
1. Download the toilet paper roll frog craft template. The template contains the frog’s legs, eyes and tongue, but that’s not all – we also have a bug! The template features the bug’s body and wings, which are labeled separately.
2. Trace the parts of the frog template on craft paper and cut them out. Use green for the frog legs and outer eyes, and pink for the tongue. You can use black for the bug’s body, and purple or pink for the bug’s wings.
3. Let’s start our toilet paper roll frog craft with the main component – a toilet paper roll! Press one of the open ends of the roll against a flat surface so it’s flattened a little. Now you have a round end and a flat end.
4. Paint the toilet paper roll with bright green acrylic paint. Let the paint dry completely before proceeding.
5. Once your painted toilet paper roll is completely dry, stick the two ends of the flattened side together so that they are sealed completely. This flat end is the back of the frog’s body.
6. Time to add details to our toilet paper roll frog craft! Stick the hindlegs on the flattened end of the toilet paper roll.
7. Attach the forelegs near the round end of the frog’s body.
8. Cut out circles of white paper – they should be smaller than the eyes from the frog’s template. Use a black Sharpie to shade in the white circles. Stick this on the green eye cutouts.
9. Stick the completed eyes on the round end of the frog’s body. Our toilet paper roll frog craft is looking good!
10. Our frog needs a tongue to catch his food, doesn’t he? Stick the pink tongue on the bottom of the round end. If you like, you can stick some circles of green paper on top of the toilet paper roll.
11. You haven’t forgotten about the bug, have you? Of course, not! Stick the wings on the bug’s body and attach a piece of string to the bug. Attach the other end of the string to the frog’s tongue. There you go – your toilet paper roll frog craft is complete!
Now all you need to do is shake your frog so he can catch the bug in his mouth! Yes, our toilet paper roll frog craft is also a toy, so kids can play with it once it’s ready. You can also make multiples, so siblings can play together – maybe each one’s frog can try to catch the other one’s bug too!
