As soon as fall comes around, it’s tempting to spend evenings at home with a warm drink and a nice book. During this season, we love books about woodland animals – they often get up to some interesting adventures!

While these books are great for reading aloud, there’s another thing you can do with them – turn them into puppet shows! Help the kids turn the story into a script, and use puppets to bring it to life.

Where do I find puppets, you ask? Well, lucky for you, we’ve got you an adorable woodland animals mini puppet craft that has enough characters to populate any puppet show you choose to present this season!

Super Cute Woodland Animals Mini Puppet Craft

Supplies required:

• Craft paper in different colors
• Craft sticks
• Colored markers or Sharpies
• Scissors
• Glue

How to make the Woodland Animals Mini Puppet Craft:

1. Download and print the woodland animals mini puppet craft template. The template contains parts of five different woodland animals – bear, hedgehog, fox, racoon and deer. The parts of each animal include the head, face, body, tail and ears. 

2. Trace the parts of the animals on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. We’ve chosen dark brown for the bear and hedgehog, light brown for the deer, orange for the fox and dark grey for the racoon. 

3. The basic assembly for all the creatures of the woodland animals mini puppet craft are pretty similar. Stick the ears inside the right positions of the heads, as shown below.

4. For the fox, deer and raccoon, stick the faces on the bottom halves of their heads. For the bear, this will be a snout.

5. Now attach the bodies to the bottom of the heads, applying glue to the back of the heads. 

6. Next, it’s time to attach the tails to all the members of your woodland animals mini puppet craft – except the hedgehog! Apply glue to the right side of the body, to the back and secure the tail in place. 

7. Now that the common steps are done, it’s time to move on to the bits that make each one of our woodland animals unique! For the deer, stick the antlers to the top of its head, sticking to the back of the head. Add the three white dots on the forehead. For the racoon, stick those eye patches on either side of the face. Use glue to arrange the black stripes on its tail. Stick the white tip on the fox’s tail, and stick the hedgehog’s spine to the back of its head and body. 

8. Get out the markers, it’s time to add some details to your woodland animals mini puppet craft! Use a black marker to draw eyes, noses and a mouth. Take out a pink marker to color in some cheeks. 

9. Now apply some glue to the back of your woodland creatures and attach a Popsicle stick. That’s it – your woodland animals mini puppet craft is all done!
