This Paper Plate Flamingo Craft gives kids the opportunity to use multiple craft materials to create their own gorgeous and unique flamingo!

Sometimes having too many things can be confusing, like having an overflowing wardrobe leaves you feeling like you have nothing to wear!

The same applies to craft supplies – sometimes when you have a full stash it feels like you can make anything in the world, but sometimes it can be hard to know where to begin.

Well, if you’ve been feeling that way lately, we’ve got a fun project today to help you get started on that stash – an easy paper plate flamingo craft!

While it’s called a paper plate craft, this is actually a multi-media project, as you’ll see. The paper plate is just the base, but we’re also going to use felt, feathers and craft paper. If you like, you can feel free to add a button here, a jewel there or something else altogether!

This is a great project to go along with a lesson about migratory birds, or the Flamingo Festival in Andhra Pradesh, India.

2. Trace the template patterns on craft papers of the appropriate colors and cut them out. Of course, we’re going with pink for the flamingo’s head, while we’ve chosen yellow for the beak and black for the legs. As for the wing, we’ve decided to use pink felt instead of craft paper, for some added texture.

3. Take a paper plate and cut it in half. That’s all we need for our paper plate flamingo craft!

4. Ideally, you need a white paper plate, but if you have a colored one instead, simply apply a coat of white paint on it. Once it is dry, apply a second coat of pink acrylic paint and leave that to dry. Of course, you can skip this entire step by using a bright pink paper plate!

5. Coming back to the flamingo template patterns, stick the eye on the flamingo’s head and attach the beak with glue. Add details to the beak and head with colored Sharpies or markers. Add a few pink feathers to the wing – you may need a stronger glue for this if you’re using felt.

6. Once your painted paper plate is dry, apply glue to the bottom end of the flamingo’s neck and attach it to the front end of the paper plate as shown. Stick the wing on the upper edge of the paper plate.
