Paper Bag Superman Puppet Craft for Kids
Here’s an easy Paper Bag Superman Puppet Craft, perfect for kids to make on Superman Day or for their very own Superman on Father’s Day!
One thing we’ve learned to expect is Mother’s Day as soon as spring changes into summer and Father’s Day in the following month. However, not many of us realize that Father’s Day is in the same week as another special day – Superman Day!
Yes, Superman Day is on 12th June, quite close to Father’s Day and we think that this is no coincidence – after all, Dads are superheroes! They have quite a few things in common – strength, integrity and above all, the desire to protect their loved ones at any cost. However, one thing that is certainly not the same is their outfit – Superman’s suit isn’t exactly something you could wear to work!
Fun Facts about Superman’s Suit:
- First things first – why the underwear? It’s apparently inspired by the strongmen of yesteryears, who performed in boxers or tight shorts.
- Superman’s outfit initially included laced sandals but they were later changed to boots
- The logo on Superman’s chest was inspired by ancient heraldic crests and was finally trademarked in 1938
- Superman’s cape is inspired by swashbucklers of yore, but it also helps him steer while flying
- In the movies, however, capes can be quite cumbersome, due to which they were often added by CGI
Since we’re in the month where we’re celebrating both Superman and our own superhero Dad, we think it’s a good time to make a fun paper bag Superman puppet!
Paper Bag Superman Puppet Craft for Kids
Supplies required:
- Craft paper in different colors
- Brown paper bag
- Sharpies or markers
- Scissors
- Glue
How to make the Paper Bag Superman Puppet:
1. Download and print the paper bag Superman puppet template. The template includes Superman’s face, hair, eyes, outfit, belt, shorts, logo, boots and of course, cape!
2. Trace the parts of the template on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. Since we’re all quite familiar with Superman, there’s no confusion regarding what colors to use for the paper bag Superman puppet!
3. Let’s start by sticking Superman’s hair on his face – you’ll see that he has his iconic little hair flick in the front! Once that’s done, stick the yellow stripe on the top of the shorts.
4. Let’s complete the face – stick on the eyes and use a marker to draw a little nose and a smile.
5. Let’s move on to the Superman suit. While real Superman’s suit is pretty skin-tight, let’s have our paper bag Superman puppet dressed a little more relaxed! Cut out a blue piece of paper the same size as the front of the brown paper bag.
6. Attach the shoes to the bottom edge of the blue outfit piece.
7. Now to make the suit look like it actually begins to Superman – stick the shorts on top of the suit!
8. The final touch is still remaining – the ‘S’ logo on the chest, clearly indicating who owns this suit!
9. What’s a superhero without his cape? Yes, go ahead and stick the cape to the back of the suit of our paper bag Superman puppet.
10. Time to put everything together! Gather the Superman’s head, suit and the brown paper bag.
11. Stick the Superman suit on the brown paper bag just below the folded flap. The shoes will stick out of the bag, and that’s okay.
12. Now all that’s left to do is to stick the Superman head on the folded flap of the paper bag.
13. That’s it – your paper bag Superman puppet is complete and ready to play with!
We’ve seen movies mixing up various universes, like DC, Marvel and the like, so why not create your very own universe? You can include this paper bag Superman puppet along with other characters like an astronaut, Encanto’s Mirabel, Harry Potter and the Little Mermaid. It’ll be quite the puppet show with all of them!
