How to make the Paper Circle Heliconia Craft:
1. Let’s start our paper circle Heliconia craft by getting the pieces ready. Cut out 7 circles from craft paper of two colors – we’ve chosen red and yellow here. Make the circles of one color slightly larger than the other. Cut out a long rectangular strip from green craft paper.
2. Now that you have all the pieces ready, let’s start assembling the flower. Stick the smaller circles inside the larger ones, so that they are centrally aligned. These are the petals of our paper circle Heliconia craft.
3. Let’s keep the petals aside and focus on the stem now. Take your long green rectangle and start rolling inward from one corner.
4. Continue rolling till you reach the end of your strip. Make it a tight roll, so you get a thin stem, rather than a large, loose one.
5. Take our petals and fold each circle around halfway, so the yellow part (the larger circle) is inside and the red (the smaller circle) is outside.
6. Apply glue on the top of the stem and attach a half-folded petal as shown in the picture below.
7. Similarly, stick another petal opposite to it, at a slightly lower position,
8. Attach all the petals in this manner, alternating sides as you move downward.
9. The paper circle Heliconia craft is incomplete without leaves, right? Well, let’s fix that right away. Cut out some leaf shapes from green craft paper, and fold them vertically as shown below.
10. Attach the leaves to the stem of the flower in the same way you attached the petals. Place the leaves at a short distance from the lowest petal. That’s it – your paper circle Heliconia craft is complete!
You can make this craft in any color combination of your choice, although shades of pinks and reds are the most common colors seen in members of the Heliconia family. We think that this paper circle Heliconia craft resembles the Heliconia caribaea species native to West Indies. Most Heliconias are grown as ornamental plants, and we’re not surprised; they’re so beautiful!
