Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Glory to the newborn King;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!”

Looks like the herald angels had quite a unique privilege of making that special announcement! As soon as Christmas season rolls around, you’re bound to see images of little cherubic faces in gowns with two wings popping out the back.

But how do we know that this is how angels look?

Well, we have art and sculpture that goes back to the 15th century showing angels in this image. We have art from Spain, Italy, Belgium, France, Scotland, America, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Syria and so many more!

Well, today we are also going to create some angel art, albeit a simple version. Here is a cute little handprint angel craft for kids to make this festive season, using their little hands!

Supplies required:

  • Colored craft papers
  • Pencil
  • A pair of scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Sharpies

How to make the Handprint Angel Craft:

1. Download the handprint angel craft template. The template contains parts of the angel, including the angel’s hair, face, halo, dress and handprint wings. If you don’t want to use the handprints in the template, you can get your child to draw an outline of their own hand and you can cut them out instead. The template includes parts for two angels, one with straight hair and one with curly hair.

2. Trace the parts of the template on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. The halo will be yellow and the wings white, but the rest can be played around with. You can choose any skin color or hair color you like, and your angel can also be dressed in a gown of any color!

What I love about this handprint angel craft is that it teaches kids that angels aren’t of any particular race or nationality – there are angels everywhere! If you think carefully, you may recall a few that have appeared in your life, to help you exactly when you’ve felt trapped in despair. If you know someone like that, you may want to give them a little handprint angel to show that you still think of them!
