Easy Step-by-Step Origami Frog Craft for Kids

Easy Step-by-Step Origami Frog Craft for Kids

If you're just starting out with Origami, you may enjoy this classic project - an Origami frog craft! So get some green craft paper and let's fold!

Supplies required:

  • Colored craft paper
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Googly eyes
  • Markers

How to make the Origami Frog Craft:

1. Select lightweight craft paper for the Origami frog craft. Measure and cut 2 squares of side 15 cm.

2. Take one of the squares and fold it in half diagonally. Unfold.

3. Now, fold the square paper in half, diagonally, along the other side. You now have a triangle.

4. Make a thin fold along the base of the triangle, about 1 cm inside.

5. Fold the top corner of the triangle down by about 1 cm. You have something that looks like a boat with a middle crease.

6. Hold the right-bottom corner of the boat and fold it upward along the middle crease, so it looks like an arm.

7. Fold the top corner of this ‘arm’ downward so its edges align.

8. Fold in the 2 top tiny corners inward. 

9. Repeat steps 6-8 on the left side so you have something like a rough diamond shape with three corners.

10. Fold the bottom corner upward and fold the corner inward as shown. Now you’re left with two opposite corners.

11. Fold in the left and right corners by 1 cm.

12. Turn the current pattern to the front side. The head of our Origami frog craft is ready. 

13. For the body, take the other square of paper and make vertical and horizontal half-folds. Unfold both folds.

14. Fold the left and right edges inward so they meet along the middle crease.

15. Hold the right folded side along its open edge and fold out diagonally from the center by about 1 cm.

16. Fold the thin top folded-out flap in half.

17. Repeat steps 15-16 on the left side.

18. Turn the current pattern to the other side.

19. Fold the current pattern in half using a valley fold. You now have a shape that’s almost a square.

20. Fold the bottom edge of this ‘square’ upward by about 0.5 cm. 

21. Fold in the right corner by 1.5 cm.

22. Fold out 1 cm of the folded corner.

23. Repeat Steps 21-22 on the left side. 

24. Now fold in the top two corners inward so they almost meet in the middle.

25. Turn the origami pattern to the front side. Your head and body are both ready.

26. Now it’s time to assemble our Origami frog craft! Glue the head to the top of the body pattern to complete the craft.

27. Finally, stick some googly eyes on the protruding parts of the frog’s head. Use a black marker to draw nostrils and a smile.
