15 Tricolor Paper Quilling Ideas for Independence Day

Celebrate India’s Independence in style this 15th August – with some stunning tricolor paper quilling ideas! Includes flowers, jewelry and more!
When Miss P was young, we used to spend Independence Day mornings glued to the TV, watching the tricolor being hoisted at multiple locations across the country. Seeing people from all parts of this large country saluting the same flag was a sight to behold – it gave us goosebumps!
The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has laid down some rules and guidelines for handling the Indian Tricolor, called the ‘Flag Code of India’. Let’s look at some of them.
Rules for Handling the Indian Tricolor
The national flag should never touch the ground, water or any surface that could cause damage
When displayed horizontally, the saffron band should be at the top, and when displayed vertically, the saffron band should be on the left
If displayed at night, the tricolor should be appropriately illuminated
The flag should not be used as a holder for any object
Damaged or soiled flags should not be hoisted, but should be disposed of in private
Nothing in the flag code prevents us from making paper quilling crafts, so that’s what we’re going to do this Independence Day! Miss P learnt how to quill from the very talented Ritu Gera and the student has now turned into the teacher! She decided to teach me some quilling basics and that’s how we started exploring some tricolor paper quilling ideas for Independence Day!

There are two days in the year that are observed as Dinosaur Day – the 1st of June and the third Tuesday of May, which falls on 16th this year. It is a little unclear as to why there are two days – maybe it’s because one day is not enough to celebrate the awesomeness of dinosaurs!

One of the most popular terms used in paper crafts is ‘Origami’. The Japanese term that refers to ‘folding paper’, came to be used around the 1800s, although the exact date of origin is unknown. Apparently, the high price of paper then restricted the use of Origami to religious events alone.
Origami is deeply ingrained in Japanese culture, with Origami butterflies used in weddings, and Origami used as good luck charms for soldiers. Today, there are a staggering number of Origami artists, each more talented than the other!

50+ Easy Flower Crafts for Kids

25 Pretty flower crafts for kids that are perfect for Summer- from tissue paper cherry blossoms, lilies, sunflowers & heliconias too!
When was the last time you really looked at a flower? I’m not talking about a cursory glance or a sniff of its perfume; I’m talking about a good, detailed exploration of its beauty. Chances are that your answer starts with “Hmmm….” and ends with “….never”!
We all know that flowers are beautiful, but we don’t realize exactly how stunning they are. So small and delicate, but they have some of Nature’s grandest phenomena hidden in them. But you wouldn’t know that unless you really looked, like artist Georgia O’Keeffe did. And she tried to do justice to the pretty blooms she saw by painting their huge portraits.
Of course, not all of us are as talented as Ms. O’Keeffe, and that’s okay! Instead, why not try out some flower crafts – from simple tissue paper blossoms to heliconias with their detailed arrangement. Yes, we’ve got all those and more in our list of beautiful flower crafts for kids!
